Pop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, musical theatre belting, R&B, and other popular genres use much different technique from classical and Opera. Some things are the same but many classical teachers will tell you that if you learn to sing classical you can sing anything and that is just not true. We’ve all heard Opera singers try to sing rock or pop and it’s usually at least partially a train wreck. Although they share the same breathing and breath support techniques, the differences between classical and popular genres are pronounced.
At Singing Lessons NYC we have a strong track record with Pop, K-Pop, C-Pop, Rock, Jazz (including what lay people call jazz and real”straight-ahead jazz”), and blues. Our clients have won or been nominated for awards such as the Chinese Music Awards, GRAMMYs, Golden Horse Awards, American Idol Golden Ticket winners, Superstar K, The Voice and even recorded platinum records.
Don’t take popular style lessons from people who can’t sing in anything but classical – take from someone with a track record of success in your genre who can get you to where you wanna be – not where THEY want you to be!
