Hey y’all! Ellie here to tell you about our new teacher Liam. Liam is so on brand for us and I’ll tell you why.
First, Liam is in process of his MFA in voice science and vocal pedagogy (the science of teaching singing) which we require. But he also is a great representative of our other values here at the studio, such as he gives each client 3 actionable things to work on after the session and we really value people like him who can punch above their weight as far as value to our clients. Liam sees the person first and tailors his teaching to match the client, be they a beginner or a seasoned pro.
He’s also enthusiastic!!! !!!! !! Whether you have a musical project you’re working on or are a beginner who needs a teacher who will be on their team, Liam brings an amazing positive energy to his sessions.
Another interesting thing about Liam is that, in addition to being a working singer/actor here in NYC, he is also on staff with various shows as a vocal consultant, helping professional dancers and actors develop the singing skill they need for the production — and helping prevent injuries. “I’m like a physical therapist for the voice,” he says. The production he’s working on currently is heading to Broadway.
At his audition, we gave him 3 clients with a diverse array of strengths and weaknesses who were at different levels in their singing. A lot of auditioning teachers will teach pretty much the same voice lesson for all three clients, regardless of their needs, but Liam gave 3 great lessons covering different things targeted at the specific needs of each of the test clients. And no one is going to get through our audition without those clients giving them superior marks in their surveys – Liam got 8s and 9s out of 10 for all questions from all three clients. One of the importanter questions on the student evaluations is “did you sing better at the end of the lesson”, to which he was given 9s from all 3 clients.
He’s also super helpful for clients who’ve been injured and does work in recording studios as part of the team working with previously-injured voices. If you’re heading to the recording studio, Liam is experienced with recording projects and their challenges and can help your recording come off really nicely – whether you’re in recovery from an injury or just want someone with recording experience to help and advocate for you.
We have a money-back guarantee for all first lessons with a teacher, and I totally believe you’ll make some great progress with Liam, but also have a really beautiful time in the session cause that’s Liam!
